Tigers Can Not Overcome Hot-Shooting Golden Eagles

MILWAUKEE, Wis - The Jackson State men's basketball team fell to a hot-shooting Marquette squad 83-54 Tuesday night in front of 11,539 fans at Fiserv Forum as senior forward Jayveous McKinnis scored 13 points, grabbed 14 rebounds, and recorded 4 blocks to pace the Tigers. That is his fifth double-double of the season and also the 28th of his career. 

"I thought we played a good first half, but we didn't come out with that same intensity in the second half which costed us the game," said head coach Wayne Brent

Both teams were toe-to-toe in the first half trading buckets for the entire period going into halftime with tied up, 29-29. McKinnis was terrific for the Tigers in the first half recording 5 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 blocks.  Marquette took an early advantage in the second half beginning on a 7-0 run. The Golden Eagles came back on with another run, 8-0, which was capped off on a layup from Terence Lewis II at the 11-minute mark in the second half, 56-38. 

The Golden Eagles kept their foot on the gas outscoring the Tigers 54-25 in the second half to secure the victory. 

Chance Moore also scored in double figures for the Tigers will 11 points off the bench. 

NOTABLES
- Jackson State State was 21-69 (30 percent) shooting from the field and 8-15 (53 percent) from the charity stripe
- Marquette shot 53 percent (30-57) from the field and 65 percent (15-23) from the free-throw line
- The Tigers registered 38 rebounds, including 21 on the defensive glass and 17 on the offensive glass
- The Golden Eagles pulled down 46 rebounds, with 35 coming on the defensive end and 11 on the offensive end 
- JSU finished with 34 points in the paint, 26 bench points, 16 fast-break points and 11 second-chance points
- Marquette registered 46 bench points, 42 points in the paint, 26 fast-break points and 16 second-chance points

UP NEXT
The Tigers will remain on the road as they travel to Normal, Illinois on Saturday, December 4 to face Illinois State at 3 p.m. CT at the Redbird Arena and the game will be streamed on ESPN3.
