PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas - Thursday night's soccer game did not have the ending the Jackson State women's soccer team was looking for in the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament Quarterfinals. The third seed, Grambling State, knocked out JSU with a goal in the 83rd minute. Grambling defeated JSU, 2-1.
In the opening half, the JSU controlled majority of the game on Grambling's half of the field. In the 3rd minute of the contest, JSU scored the first goal of the match. All-SWAC Second Team selection
Annalise Brunson received a pass from
Brynn Walker and fired a shot that got past the keeper on the left side putting JSU ahead, 1-0.
Goalkeeper
Tionna Taylor and the back line remained solid not conceding a goal in the first half.
Coming out of halftime, JSU came out with the same momentum. Two minutes into the half, Brunson had a shot on goal that was saved, and over the next seven minutes she had another shot that went over the crossbar.
Grambling broke the tie in the 76th minute. Jaiyesimi Lindsay collected a loose ball and sent a shot that was able to get by the keeper on the left side of the goal into the net. Hannah Roach took a kick and she found Miranda Urbizu in the box who headed the ball into the net in the 83rd minute for GSU's second goal of the game.
JSU could not get another shot in the game and were defeated 2-1 by Grambling.
Jackson State finishes the season with a record of 4-12-3 on the season.
