Softball falls to Eastern Illinois in Double-Header

Box Score 1 VICKSBURG, Miss. - The Jackson State Lady Tigers fell in a pair of matchups to Eastern Illinois Sunday afternoon to open the 2021 softball season in Vicksburg, Miss. Eastern Illinois took game one by a final of 7-0 before taking game two 9-1 at the Sports Force Plex in Vicksburg.

GAME 1 
The Lady Tigers fell 7-0 on Sunday afternoon to open the season. Jade Montgomery led Eastern Illinois to victory on the rubber while Kayla Owens suffered the loss for JSU. The righty allowed eight hits and seven runs over six innings, striking out five and walking one. Eastern Illinois hit three home runs on the day. Hannah Cravens put one out in the sixth inning. Mia Davis had a long ball in the seventh inning. Haley Mitchell had a homer in the seventh inning. Isis Taylor, Brianna Simms-Johnson, and Arredondo each collected one hit to lead JSU in game one

GAME 2
The Jackson State Lady Tigers fell to Eastern Illinois by a final of 9-1 on Sunday in game one. Olivia Price was credited with the victory for Eastern Illinois. The ace surrendered one run on one hit over two and a third innings, striking out two and walking zero. Sydney Cammon threw three and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen. Macie Kuppenbender took the loss for Jackson State. The pitcher surrendered three runs on four hits over three innings, striking out one.Eastern Illinois smacked three home runs on the day. Megan Burton had a homer in the second inning. Hannah Cravens had a long ball in the fifth inning. Abi Stahlhutput one out in the fourth inning. Zoey Keyes led the Lady Tigers  with one hit in two at bats.

Jackson State returns to the field Tuesday afternoon with a double-header matchup set with Southern Miss in Hattiesburg, Miss. The Lady Tigers and Lady Golden Eagles are set to begin first pitch at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
