JACKSON, Miss. – The Jackson State baseball team won its second game in a row and defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff 13-2 Saturday afternoon from Bob Braddy Field.
The Tigers (2-4) found success early.
Wesley Reyes scored on an error in the second inning and in the third,
Equon Smith scored on a wild pitch and
Chenar Brown added an RBI to put the Tigers up 3-0.
UAPB (0-4) added a pair of runs in its half of the fourth, and JSU promptly responded.
Smith added an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth and Standifer homered to right field in its part of the fifth and JSU opened a 5-2 lead.
The Tigers' offensive erupted in the seventh inning with six runs. Standifer delivered a two-RBI single and pitch-hitter
Jatavious Melton cleared the bases with a three-RBI double. Dillard capped the inning with an RBI single to center field.
Marcus Atterberry delivered a two-run home run in eighth frame.
Standifer finished 3-for-4 with four RBI and scored three runs and Reyes finished 1-for-3 and scored a pair of runs while drawing a walk.
Harry Colon earned the win on the bump. The senior tossed four innings and scattered three hits and allowed two runs while striking out four batters.
Brandon Valentin entered in relief and allowed a pair of hits and struck out three batters.
The Tigers and Golden Lions complete their three-game series Sunday at noon.
