Box Score BATON ROUGE, La. – Jackson State fought their way past the Southern Lady Jaguars Sunday afternoon, winning a five set thriller, 3-2, to open the season 1-0 overall.

JSU defeated Southern 25-20 in set one, before falling in sets two and three, 25-23 and 26-24. Behind 2-1 in the contest, the Lady Tigers rallied back in sets four and five, winning 25-15 and 15-8 to pick up the victory in game one on the season.
The Lady Tigers used a balanced offensive attack.
SWAC Player of the Year
Jylen Whitten sported a team best 13 kills to go with 17 digs on the afternoon.
Alexis Williams notched 12 total kills and 15 digs and
Camry Dabney had a total of seven kills on the day.
Alana Washington finished with a game-high 22 digs while
Damassy Thompson had 10 digs.
As a team, the Blue and White had 48 total kills, 81 kills, nine service aces, and 14 block assists.
The Lady Tigers improved to 1-0 overall and 1-0 in SWAC play with the win. JSU returns to play tomorrow night versus Alcorn State at home for the first home game of the season. Both teams are set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
