Covington Career-High Leads JSU past UAPB

JACKSON, Miss. – Junior Jariyah Covington scored a career-high 24 points and Jackson State rolled past Arkansas-Pine Bluff 84-61 Monday evening in Southwestern Athletic Conference from the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center.
 
JSU improved to 13-5 overall and 12-1 in SWAC play, while UAPB fell to 2-18 and 1-13 in the conference.
 
The JSU backcourt played lights out.
 
Covington, who came off the bench and played in 23 minutes, was an efficient 9-for-13 from the field and 4-for-6 from beyond the arc. Senior Dayzsha Rogan dropped 17 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the floor and grabbed five rebounds.
 
Sophomore Keshuna Luckett added 16 points and handed out a blistering 10 assists for her first career double-double.
 
Senior Ameshya Williams scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds. Williams was limited early foul trouble and played in only 17 minutes.
 
As a team, JSU shot 51.7 percent (30-for-58) from the field, while holding UAPB to 42.9 percent (21-for-49) from the floor.
 
The Lady Tigers forced the Golden Lions into 19 turnovers, which was turned into 24 points.
 
JSU also won the battle in front of the basket and outrebounded UAPB 27-21 and secured a 34-14 margin in points in the paint. The Lady Tigers also showcased their depth and scored 37 points from the bench.
 
JSU returns to action Thursday and plays host to Alabama A&M at 5:30 p.m.
