JACKSON, Miss. - Jackson State fell to Belhaven 9-8 on Wednesday in walkoff fashion. The game was tied at eight with Belhaven batting in the bottom of the seventh when Marlee Blackwell singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run.
Despite the loss, Jackson State did collect seven hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Belhaven had five hits on the way to victory.
Jackson State got things moving in the second inning, when
Alexis Arredondo singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.
Jackson State knotted the game up at eight in the top of the sixth inning.
Kayla Owens drove in two when Owens homered.
Belhaven scored six runs in the fifth inning. Belhaven offense in the inning was led by Elizabeth Taggard, Cade Bass, Marissa Rice, and Abby Trahan, all driving in runs in the frame.
Kennedy Carruth pitched Belhaven to victory. The ace lasted five and two-thirds innings, allowing two hits and two runs while striking out 12.
Takiya Hill took the loss for Jackson State. The righty allowed four hits and five runs over four innings, striking out four.
Dallas Blaker started the game for Belhaven. Blaker surrendered six runs on five hits over one and one-third innings, striking out one and walking one.
Jackson State hit one home run on the day. Owens had a dinger in the sixth inning.
Monica Serrano went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Jackson State in hits.
Blackwell led Belhaven with two hits in five at bats. Belhaven was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Anna McNeer made the most plays with eight.
