JACKSON, Miss. - The Jackson State Tigers came up short Wednesday afternoon to Grambling State by a final score of 9-7 at home.
JSU got off to a quick start in the first inning, with a
Chandler Dillard RBI single to center that pit JSU on the board early 1-0.
Grambling put together a six run top half of the third inning to take a 6-1 but a four run bottom half, with the help of two home runs by JSU, cut the GSU lead down to 6-5.
Grambling scored two more runs in the next half inning to take an 8-5 lead. Jackson State managed to bring across two more runs in the fifth and seventh, but ultimately came up shy in midweek action to the Tigers of Gambling by a final of 9-7.
JSU pounded out 13 total hits as a team, including three home runs, two of which came off the bat of
Chenar Brown, in the loss.
Brown collected three hits, including a three run home run in the third inning and a solo shot in the fifth inning. He led JSU with four runs batted in for the afternoon.
Devontae Rhodes had a multiple hit outing with two hits in four at bats for JSU.
Juan Marulanda took the loss going 2.2 innings while giving up four hits and four earned runs.
Jackson State fell to 11-6 overall but will look to get back on the winning side this Friday versus Alabama A&M in SWAC play.
