Lady Tigers to Honor Eight Seniors In Regular Season Finale

JACKSON, Miss. - The Jackson State Lady Tigers host Alabama State tomorrow afternoon for the final regular season matchup of the season. The winner of tomorrow night's contest will take claim to the regular season SWAC championship. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. at the Lee E. Williams Athletic and Assembly Center.

GAME 19 RECAP | JSU 65 | AAMU 51
The Jackson State Lady Tigers cruised to a 65-51 victory over Alabama A&M on Thursday afternoon in SWAC play. Continuing the high tempo action in conference play, the JSU Lady Tigers held a 26-15 halftime lead over Alabama A&M behind nine points from Dayzsha Rogan at the break. The Lady Bulldogs narrowed the gap after an 8-2 run led to a Jackson State timeout with 6:44 remaining in the third quarter. Three straight steals and scores by Rogan pushed lead to 36-23 in favor of the the Lady Tigers at the 4:30 mark of the period. JSU put together an 8-7 run capped off by a buzzer beating jumper from Ameshya Williams and headed to the final quarter up 44-30. Midway through the fourth quarter, the Lady Bulldogs pulled within ten points, but the Lady Tigers held off the late surge behind 11 points from Williams,19 by Rogan and 16 scored by Keshuna Luckett.

LAST TIME VESUS ALABAMA STATE (JANUARY 4, 2021) ASU 72 | JSU 70
 Jackson State fell in a close matchup Monday evening by a final score of 72-70 to Alabama State in conference play. Alabama State opened up the game on a 10-2 run before the Lady Tigers pulled back with a 17-14 deficit at the end of the first quarter. Jackson State went on a 4-0 run in the first two minutes of the second quarter to take it's first lead of the game 18-17. With 29-seconds left in the second quarter, Jackson State controlled a six-point 37-31 lead. Alabama State closed the half with a bucket, as JSU took a 37-33 lead into the break. At the half, Ameshya Williams led JSU with 14-points, eight rebounds, and two blocks. Keshuna Luckett had 11-points at the break. The third quarter went back and forth throughout the 10-minute period with a tie score of 51-51 with under a minute left in the quarter. Alabama State took a 3-point lead into the final quarter of play and would maintain a close lead throughout the majority of the fourth quarter. The final minute of the fourth quarter was full of excitement. ASU took a 68-65 lead into the final 60-seconds before stretching it's lead to 72-65 with 25-seconds remaining. With the help of a Keshuna Luckett layup and a Williams three-pointer, Jackson State was able to trim the score to 72-70. Despite the near comeback, JSU fell by a final of 72-70 for it's first conference loss of the season. Ameshya Williams had a career night with 25 points, 23 rebounds, seven blocked shots, and one steal, despite a nail biting loss to Alabama State, 72-70. Williams also knocked down a three-point shot to close the Lady Hornets lead to 72-70 with seconds left on the clock. She also went a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Keshuna Luckett had her best outing of the season, totaling 22-points on 7-of-13 shooting. Jariyah Covington collected 11-points and Dayzsha Rogan had 10-points on the night. As a team, Jackson State shot 24-of-63 from the field. The Lady Tigers also tallied 53 rebounds, and went 19-of-23 from the free-throw line. 

JACKSON STATE LEADERS
Jackson State has three players averaging double-digit points through 19 games. Dayzsha Rogan lead JSU with an average of 17.9 points per game. Jackson State newcomer, Jariyah Covington is having a fantastic season in her first year, averaging 10.9 points per game, with 42 assists, and 22 steals. SWAC Preseason Player and Defensive Player of the Year, Ameshya Williams, averages 15.8 points per game. She also leads Jackson State with 11.9 rebounds per game. For the season, Williams also leads the team with 54 blocked shots.
