Jackson State finished the season undefeated in SWAC play with a 79-54 win over over Alabama State on Saturday to claim the regular season SWAC Championship. Jackson State led for nearly 36 minutes of action in the contest, jumping out to a first half lead of 43-26 at the break. In the second half, Jackson State led by it's largest lead of the night by 25-points with just under three minutes left in the contest. Jackson State went on to defeat Alabama State by a convincing 79-54 win in the regular season finale.
Tristan Jarrett led the Tigers with 22 points on the night.
Jonas James added 17 points and six rebounds while
Cainan McClelland had 12 points and five steals on the night. Another senior,
Darrian Wilson, tallied 11 points and drained 3-of-4 from three point range. With the win, JSU improved to 11-5 overall on the season and a perfect 11-0 in SWAC play.

Jackson State outscored Arkansas-Pine Bluff 8-2 in the overtime period and the Tigers prevailed 64-58 Monday evening in Southwestern Athletic Conference action. After UAPB scored the first bucket of the overtime period,
Isaiah Williams' jumper at 3:29 started an 8-0 run which
Tristan Jarrett capped with a pair of free throws in the waning moments of overtime. Jarrett showed why he's a candidate for SWAC Player of the Year. The senior dropped 32 points and was a perfect 14-for-14 at the free-throw line. Jarrett also grabbed 13 rebounds to secure his third double-double of the season. It's also his second 30-point effort this season.
Jonas James added 11 points and grabbed six boards, while Williams scored nine and hauled in 10 rebounds. JSU won the game on second-chance points and free throws. The Tigers outscored the Lions in second-chance opportunities 13-0. The Blue and White converted 24 free throws, while UAPB finished 11-for-21 at the charity stripe. There were 12 lead changes, 12 ties, and the Tigers led for almost 19 minutes.
JARRETT, MCKINNIS TAKE TOP TWO SWAC HONORS
The Southwestern Athletic Conference announced its 2020-21 All-SWAC Men's Basketball teams and individual award winners on Tuesday afternoon. The all-conference honors were voted on by the league's coaches and sports information directors. Jackson State's Tristan Jarrett and Jayevous McKinnis took home the top two honors given out by the conference, with Jarrett being named Player of the Year, while McKinnis claimed Defensive Player of the Year recognition. Jarrett (Brownsville, Tenn.) led the league in scoring with 20.3 points per contest. He was the key scoring threat for a Jackson State Tigers team that was crowned 2021 SWAC Men's Basketball regular season co-champions. He also ranked 10th in the league in rebounds per game (5.7), 3rd in free throw percentage (.835), 5th in field goal percentage (.413), 1st in three-point field goals made per game (2.4), 9th in steals per game (1.5) and 7th in minutes played per game (31.7). McKinnis (Brandon, Miss.) was the key defensive presence for a Jackson State Tigers team that ranked 1st in opponent average points per game (61.6). He ranked 9th in the league in points per game (12.2), 1st in rebounds per game (13.1), 10th in free throw percentage (.627), 1st in blocks per game (2.0), and 6th in minutes played per game (31.9). McKinnis also ranked No. 2 nationally in rebounds per game. Jarrett earned first team All-SWAC honors with McKinnis earning second-team membership.

The 2021 Cricket Wireless SWAC Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments will be held March 10-13 at Bartow Arena located in downtown Birmingham.
This year the SWAC has followed guidance from the CDC, NCAA and the league's COVID-19 Advisory Committee to put into place additional health and safety protocols to keep tournament participants, workers and fans safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fans attending this year's event will be required to wear a face covering/mask at all times while in attendance. Spectator seating for the event is limited (1,000 fans per session) and will be divided into socially-distanced sections.
Spectator seating will be spaced out in accordance with the CDC prescribed safety distance of at least six (6) feet apart from other seating sections. All available spectator seats will be sanitized before use and there will be increased sanitization measures performed in all commons areas throughout the duration of the event.
