OMAHA, Nebraska - After a historical season in which Jackson State volleyball finished the regular season undefeated and earned the SWAC Championship, the Lady Tigers season came to a close on Wednesday night, falling to No. 18 Western Kentucky by a final of 3-0 in the first round of the NCAA Volleyball Tournament.
The Lady Tigers fell in sets one and two by finals of 25-11 and 25-16 before ultimately losing the third and final set by a score of 25-12. Freshman of the Year,
Alexis Williams, had six kills to lead JSU along with
Taila Gaines who also had four kills in the matchup.
Damassy Thompson had 10 assists and two digs on the night for the Lady Tigers. WiIliams,
DeKyra Dennis, and
Alana Washington each had over four digs in the match to pace JSU, with Williams leading the team with eight digs.Â
The Lady Tigers season came to a close in a hard fought NCAA Tourmament match versus the No. 18 ranked team in the country, a team that had only lost four sets all season and improved to 22-0 on the season. JSU's season wraps up with an overall record of 11-1, earning their first NCAA Tournament bid since 2016, and claiming the 2021 SWAC Championship .Â
