PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas. - The Jackson State Lady Tigers soccer team came up short in the Semifinals of the SWAC Tournament on Friday afternoon, falling to Alabama State by a final score of 3-2.
Alabama State jumped out to a 3-0 lead on the scoreboard, but the second half play of the Lady Tigers brought JSU back within a 3-2 deficit with a 70th minute goal by
Annalise Brunson and an 88th minute goal that found the back of the net by
Maya-Joy Thompson.
Unfortunutely, the comeback was not enough as ASU went on to defeat JSU by a final score of 3-2 in the Semis. Jackson State concludes the spring season with an overall record of 6-4 and back-to-back appearances in the conference tournament semifinals in just year two of the
Dr. Ted Flogaites era.
In the past two seasons, JSU has combined for an impressive 14 wins in a short period of time. With the recent NCAA COVID policies regarding eligibility, the Lady Tigers look to bring back their entire squad from this season.
Brunson, who notched the first goal of the contest for JSU, collected her sixth goal of the season in 10 games. Thompson finished the tournament with three goals in two games. The future is bright ahead for the Lady Tigers as they gear up for an offseason ahead of fall action.
