Lady Tigers Advance to Next Round With Win Over AAMU

Box Score GULFPORT, Miss. - The Lady Tigers got back into the winning column Wednesday morning in game two at the SWAC Tournament by defeating Alabama A&M by a final score of 4-2.

The Lady Tigers struck first in the bottom half of the first inning when a single to right field by Isabel Gusman that scored Monica Serrano from second base, to give JSU a 1-0 lead. 

Serrano once again got the Lady Tigers started in the third inning with a one out triple to put a runner on 90-feet away from the plate. A sac fly by Gusman to center field would bring in Serrano to give JSU a 2-0 lead. An error by the left field for AAMU in the third inning later allowed Alexis Arredondo to score to give JSU a 3-0 advantage after three innings. 

JSU tacked on one more run in the fourth inning, giving the Lady Tigers the 4-0 lead. Alabama A&M utilized a two-run inning in the sixth to trim JSU's lead to 4-2, yet the Lady Tigers were able to hold on to the lead, securing the win by a final of 4-2 on Wednesday. 

JSU finished with five hits as a team while being led by Serrano with two hits at the plate. Serrano also led JSU with two runs scored in the contest. Kayla Owens, Isabel Gusman, and Makayla Caballero each collected one hit a piece while Gusman led JSU with two runs batted in. 

JSU improved to 16-22 overall on the season with the win as Jackson State will take on the loser of Prairie View A&M and Southern tomorrow morning beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Gulfport Sportsplex in Gulfport, Miss.
