Volleyball Drops Three at North Texas Challenge

DENTON, TEXAS — The Jackson State University volleyball finished the North Texas Challenge Sat., Sep. 11 after completing three matches.

Jackson State opened the tournament with a match against the host team, North Texas, and fell in three sets with scores of 25-17, 25-13, and 25-21. In the last set the offense recorded 11 kills on 20 attempts (.450 percent), but North Texas hit .362 for the match. Alexis Williams led the Tigers in kills and scoring in the opening match of the tournament with seven kills and 9.5 points.

JSU volleyball battled Abilene Christian hard in the second match of the tournament, forcing the second set to a victory with a score of 27-25, and a near victory in the final set of the match.  Jylen Whitten and Alexis Williams both recorded double-doubles. Williams recorded 16 kills, 12 digs, and added five block assists. Whitten added 12 kills and 10 digs to the effort.

The Tigers dropped the last match of the tournament to Montana State with scores of 25-17 and 25-18 (twice). Jylen Whitten led the Tiger offense with 11 kills and 11.5 points scored.

Volleyball heads to Northwestern State on Sep. 14, and then wraps up non-conference games at the Hail State Invitational starting on Sep. 18.
