RUSTON, LA — Jackson State (0-3) dropped a hard-fought match against Louisiana Tech (2-2) with a score of 3-0 on Wednesday night. The Tigers lost the first two sets by two points, and the final set by six.
Louisiana Tech went on a four-point run early in the first set, which compounded into a seven-point advantage in favor of the Bulldogs. Jackson State went on a 10-1 scoring run to take back the lead 17-15, and the teams traded points until a pair of attack errors by the JSU hitters gave Louisiana Tech a final two-point lead.
In the second set the Tigers started off strong with a lead of five points before the Bulldogs came back and the teams started to battle, and the momentum swung in favor of LA. Tech for the duration of the match.
Alexis Williams led the Tigers with nine kills and 11 digs. Alana Washington added 20 digs and eight assists. Jylen Whitten and Marina Brito added eight and seven kills to the offense respectively.
The Tigers return to the court on Fri. Sept. 10 when they travel to Denton, TX for the 2021 North Texas Challenge. They are scheduled to face North Texas. Abilene Christian, and Montana State.
