Ratings

Jackson State and Florida A&M lived up to the billing. 715,00 watched the Orange Blossom Classic and its ratings outdrew Stanford/Kansas State, Oregon/Purdue, and California/Nevada. Game-in, and game-out, the Tigers prove to be the center of the college football universe.

Defense

After JSU defeated SWAC-newcomer FAMU the Tigers' defense was the talk of college football. The Rattlers' offensive line was unable to adapt to the Tigers' pash rush. Despite only collecting two tackles, edge rusher Nyles Gaddy was in the FAMU backfield throughout the contest and forced several errant throws. Senior and Memphis native Aubrey Miller Jr. cleaned up between the hashes and totaled nine tackles, seven solo and two assisted. He also added one sack and one tackle for loss. Cam'Ron Silmong-Craig added seven tackles, two tackles for loss and sack. In all, six different players recorded a tackle loss (Miller, Gaddy, Silmon-Craig, Shilo Sanders, Antwan Owens, and James Houston).

Hit Stick

Tracking "Hit Stick" tackles in which a defensive player delivers a significant tackle that changes the game and the momentum. Shilo Sanders earned two "Hit Stick" tackles in the win over FAMU. The first tackle was 3rd and 10 late in the first quarter when Sanders came from the safety spot with a tackle and forced the Rattlers to punt. The second tackle was 2nd and five late in the third quarter and Sanders came through with a five-yard loss to force a 3rd-and-long situation.

Freshmen

Several freshmen made their debuts for the Tigers: Cam'Ron Silmon-Craig, Trevonte Rucker, Herman Smith III and Shedeur Sanders all made their debut.
