Despite Strong Second Half, Jackson State Could Not Complete Comeback Against Florida A&M

TALLAHASSEE, FLA -  In what was yet a defensive battle between Jackson State and Florida A&M, the Tigers could not overcome a slow start and untimely turnovers, narrowly falling by a final score of 67-64 to the Rattlers on Monday evening inside the AL Lawson Center.

The Tigers finished with three in double figures with Jayveous McKinnis leading the way recording his ninth double-double on the season with 11 points, 13 rebounds, and he also recorded 3 blocks. Justin Brown playing in his second game of the season as he finished with 13 points off the bench. Jonas James III chipped in 12 points.

JSU jumped out to an early 5-0 lead to begin the game and that was their only lead of the contest. The Rattlers took the lead with 16:02 left to play in the first half and kept the lead for the remainder of the contest. The Rattlers got off to a blazing start, building a 21-12 advantage with 10:48 to go in the first half after a 9-0 run which was capped off by Chance Moore who converted 1-of-2 from the charity stripe and also drilled a three pointer. Brown came off the bench and provided a much-needed spark, scoring five straight points to get the Tigers back into it cutting the deficit to just three, 23-20. The deficit would only be eight (35-27) for JSU at halftime.

Out of the locker room, the Tiger defense found another level pulling within one 42-41 with 13:28 to play in the second half after Terence Lewis II nailed two free throws.  After trading buckets, FAMU responded with a 7-0 run to go up 10, 56-46. The Tigers were able to bring the game back within two late down the stretch on four different occasions, but it was FAMU who made free throws late in the game to secure a 67-64 victory.
