Box Score MONTGOMERY, ALA - Jackson State could not keep up with hot-shooting Alabama State as the Tigers fell on the road to the Hornets, 72-57, on Saturday evening inside Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
Against a solid front court, JSU (2-11, 0-2 SWAC) was able to crash the glass which resulted in a rebound shy of their season-high with 37 rebounds. However, the largest run the team could muster was a 5-0 run due to ASU's (4-12, 2-1 SWAC) ability to make shots.
The Tigers were led by Chance Moore who scored a game-high 21 points off the bench , 11 of which came in the first half.
Jayveous McKinnis also scored in double figures with 14 points and was a force on the glass grabbing eight rebounds.
Terence Lewis II added 10 points and also grabbed six rebounds.
The first half was a close contest between the two teams. JSU scored the first bucket of the game on a layup from McKinnis. Alabama State went on a 5-0 run midway through the half to take a 18-12 lead. The Tigers were able to take the lead 21-20 with 1:26 left to play in the first half, but the hornets answered back and took the lead going into intermission, 22-21.
The Hornets outscored the Tigers 50-36 in the second half. JSU found themselves down double-digits with 8:37 left to play in the second stanza, but a pair of free throws from Moore and Lewis II pulled the team to within six, 61-54, with 5:24 left to play.
But as was the case for much of the game, the Hornets responded with consecutive baskets to erase the mini-run of the 'Tigers which would never get any closer as they sealed a 72-57 victory.
