NACOGDOCHES, TX --The Jackson State men's basketball team saw all five starters score in double figures, but it was not enough in an 80-69 loss to the SFA 'Jacks on the road Thursday.
The Tigers (1-12) had five players score in double figures, led by Trace Young, who had 14 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Coltie Young tacked on 12 points and two steals and Ken Evans helped out with 11 points, six rebounds, seven assists and two steals.
Jackson State utilized excellent ball movement in Thursday's game, piling up 15 assists on 26 made field goals. Evans' seven assists were the most for the Tigers and Keiveon Hunt also added three assists of his own.
The Jackson State defense caused its share of mistakes in Thursday's game, forcing 19 SFA turnovers while committing 13. Those takeaways turned into 18 points on the other end of the floor. Zeke Cook led the way individually for the Tigers with three steals.
How It Happened
Jackson State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 36-29 heading into halftime.
SFA kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 76-61 advantage before Jackson State went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Coltie Young's layup, to shrink the deficit to 76-67 with 1:09 to go in the contest. SFA responded and outscored the Tigers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 80-69. Jackson State capitalized on 10 SFA turnovers in the period, collecting 10 points off those turnovers.
