HOUSTON – The Jackson State University men's basketball team lost at Texas Southern 81-66 Saturday night at TSU Health and PE Arena.
After the early minutes of the game trading baskets, TSU took the lead for good and never relinquished it.
A tough-shooting night by Jackson State, combined with hot-shooting by Texas Southern proved too much to overcome. JSU shot 35.5 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes, while TSU made 18 of its 28 shots to lead 42-27 at halftime.
"I thought they set the tone early at the beginning of the game from the first offensive rebound," said JSU head coach Wayne Brent. "In the first 10 minutes, they probably shot 60 percent from the field. They were more athletic. I thought they wanted it more, and they played a really, really good game."
Jayveous McKinnis (10 points, 10 rebounds) and Terence Lewis II (10 points, 11 rebounds) each posted double-doubles for Jackson State. Dyllan Taylor came off the bench to lead Jackson State with 12 points, and Ken Evans Jr. scored 11 points with seven rebounds.
Jackson State plays its final regular season road game at Prairie View A&M Monday at 8 p.m. in a nationally televised game on ESPNU.
