ITTA BENA, MISS - Jackson State returns to the road Saturday to face Mississippi Valley State at 2 p.m. CT inside the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex.
JSU (4-16, 2-7 SWAC) fell short in the first inaugural Bridge Builder Classic to Grambling State this past weekend (73-64) and they also dropped their last contest at home to Southern (75-64) on Monday.
Jayveous McKinnis anchored the Tigers in scoring and rebounding in both games, including a 15-point, 16-rebound effort versus Grambling. For the season, he is averaging 12.2 points and 10.2 boards per game (14th in the NCAA). He also ranks 6th in the NCAA in blocks (69) with (3.45 per game), and 13th in the NCAA in double-doubles (10).
In SWAC games only, the Tigers rank second in scoring defense allowing opponents to score an average of 67.4 points per game and they also rank first in blocked shots with 4.65 per game.
Mississippi Valley State (1-18, 0-7 SWAC) enters the weekend on a 6-game losing streak dropping their last contest to UAPB, 74-68.
Three MVSU players are averaging double-digit points, anchored by Robert Carpenter (17.9 ppg) followed by Caleb Hunter (13.8 ppg) and Devin Gordon (10.9 ppg). The duo have combined to make 100 three-pointers this season.
JSU has won four straight, including a 68-54 victory over MVSU last season.
