The Jackson State University softball team lost its Southwestern Athletic Conference opener to visiting Bethune-Cookman on Friday, falling 3-0 at the JSU Softball Stadium.

The Lady Tigers (9-8 overall, 0-1 SWAC) couldn't generate much offense in the contest, getting just one hit against the Lady Wildcats, that hit coming on a Mari Stephens left field single in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Bethune-Cookman, which committed four errors in the contest, scored all three of its runs in the top of the fifth inning.

Takiya Hill (2-3) went the distance for JSU, allowing four hits and one earned run while striking out three.

Due to weather concerns, Jackson State and Bethune-Cookman will wrap up their weekend series on Sunday with a doubleheader that starts at Noon.
