The Jackson State University Tigers jumped out to a 6-0 lead over Alcorn State at Braddy Field on Saturday and never looked back, romping past the Braves, 12-2, for a second straight day.
With their third win in a row, the Tigers now stand at 7-5, while the Braves remain winless at 0-6.
Jackson State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and then added one run in the bottom of the third and two more in the bottom of the fourth before the Braves scored their first run against the Tigers in two days, that coming in the top of the fifth inning to cut JSU's lead to 6-1.
Any momentum-changer the Braves had on their minds was quickly thwarted when the Tigers scored two in the bottom of the fifth inning before allowing another Braves' run in the top of the sixth. JSU responded this time to close out the scoring with four runs in the bottom of the sixth.
For the game, JSU played errorless ball and out-hit the Braves 12-to-5. The Tigers were led by designated hitter
Jaelen Williams, who went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. Right fielder
Devontae Rhodes went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI.
Eric Gonzales (1-2) picked up the win for JSU, which will go for the sweep over Alcorn Sunday at 1 p.m. at Braddy Field.
