The Jackson State University softball team split a pair of games Wednesday against Alabama State.
The Lady Tigers won game one 6-5 in 10 innings in the conclusion of Friday's suspended game, before losing 7-1 in the nightcap.
Jackson State (19-21 overall, 10-8 SWAC) won two out of three games in the series and returns to action Friday at 5 p.m. hosting Alabama A&M.
Game 1 - Lady Tigers 5, Alabama State 4 (10 innings): Friday's game was suspended 5-5 after nine innings due to rain. After getting out of a jam in the top of the inning, JSU wasted no time to get the win.
After
Zoey Keyes was placed on second base, Mari Stephens and
Samiyyah Huckabee walked to load the bases.
Lauren Stewart's sacrifice fly down the right field line scored Keys with the winning run.
Stewart went 4-for-4 with two RBI, and
Takiya Hill had a pair of hits to lead Jackson State.
Game 2 - Alabama State 7, Lady Tigers 1: JSU scored its only run in the first inning. Mari Stephens led off with a bunt single and stole second. With one out, she moved to third on a passed ball and scored on
Isis Taylor's sacrifice fly.
