JACKSON, Miss. – The Jackson State University baseball team posted a 3-2 walkoff win over Alabama A&M Friday evening at Braddy Field.
Tied at 2-2, Devonte Rhodes led off the home ninth by reaching on an error, and advanced to second on the play.
Ty Hill was intentionally walked, and both runners moved to third and second, respectively, on a passed ball. On a 1-2 pitch, Rhodes scored on a balk to end the game.
The Tigers (20-21 overall, 8-11 SWAC) scored in the first.
Jatavis Melton walked, stole second base, and moved to third on a passed ball. He scored on a wild pitch with one out to give Jackson State a 1-0 lead.
After Alabama A&M tied the score in the top of the second, JSU regained the lead in the bottom of the inning.
El'Rico Riley walked to lead off the inning, and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Caleb Evans.
Marcus Atterberry then singled up the middle to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead.
The Bulldogs tied the score in the top of the fourth and the teams traded scoreless innings until the ninth.
Nikelle Galatas (3-2) got the complete-game victory on the mound, allowing just three hits, walking one, and striking out a season-high nine batters.
