Baseball Falls In Finale At Alabama State

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Jackson State University baseball team lost at Alabama State 6-3 Saturday night at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.

Jatavis Melton led off the game with a home run to spot the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

In the second inning, Asher Akridge led off with a triple, and scored on an RBI groundout by Colby Guy to give Jackson State a 2-0 lead.

After Alabama State rallied with a pair of runs in the second, and a single run in third, JSU tied the game in the fourth. With two out, Guy singled through the left side and later scored on a single by Jefrey Rodriguez and an error on a play.

Trailing 6-3 after, JSU rallied with a run in the eighth. El'Rico Riley led off with a walk and scored on an Akridge double down the right field line to cut the margin to one at 6-4 but could get no closer.

Melton, Akridge, and Ty Hill each had two hits for the Tigers, who return to action Tuesday hosting Lemoyne-Owen at 3 p.m. at Braddy Field.
