Softball Loses In Regular Season Finale

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Jackson State University softball team fell in the regular season finale at Bethune-Cookman by scores of 4-3 and 3-1 Saturday afternoon.

JSU (21-25 overall, 12-12 SWAC) will open Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament play Tuesday, March 10 in Gulfport, Miss.

Game 1: B-CU 4, Lady Tigers 3 – Mari Stephens (two RBI) and Takiya Hill each had two hits in the opener as the Lady Tigers scored first.
In the second inning with one out, Jaila Hubbard was hit by a pitch, and advanced to second following a walk to Hill. Monica Serrano reached on a fielder's choice, with Hubbard scoring on an error on the play for a 1-0 lead.

In the fourth, Hill led off with a single and was pinch ran for by Laura Axson. Serrano walked, and both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Breanna Kimber. Victoria Salazar was safe on an infield single to load the bases before Stephens doubled down the right field line, scoring Axson and Serrano for a 3-0 lead

However, B-CU scored runs in the fourth and fifth innings to tie the score and won on a walkoff in the seventh.

Game 2: B-CU 3, Lady Tigers 1 – JSU again scored first, taking the lead in the third inning. Stephens hit a one-out single to center and scored on a two-out double to left center by Ariel Arredondo for a 1-0 lead before the Wildcats rallied.
