THIBODEAUX, La.| The Jackson State University volleyball team dropped its exhibition match to Nicholls State Saturday afternoon at David R. Stopher Gymnasium. The Tigers fell in three sets 25-23, 23-20, and 25-21.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Olivia Flanagan opened the first set with a kill and the assist by Damassy Thompson to get on the board first

-After tying the score nine times, Nicholls State slightly pulled away for the 25-23 victory

-The Tigers scored first in the second set with a kill by Alexis Williams 

-Nicholls State took a 10-5 lead over the Tigers

-A kill from Alexis Williams tied the set at 16

-Williams tied the game again at 19 recording another kill for JSU

-The Colonels held the Tigers to two points before closing out the second set in a 25-20 

-Nicholls State took another big lead over JSU to open the third set

-JSU went on a 10-5 run to tie the set at 19 with another Kill from Alexis Williams

-Nicholls State closed out the match 25-21 to take the 3-0 win over Jackson State

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-Alexis Williams led the offensive with 13 kills

-Olivia Flanagan recorded an additional eight kills followed by Jylen Whitten with six kills

-Damassy Thompson, Alexis Williams and Karys Dove each recorded an ace

-Thompson registered 19 assists while Karys Dove had 12

-Alana Washington finished the match with 17 digs

UP NEXT

The Tigers officially open the 2022 season competing in the Southeast Missouri State Tournament. JSU will face North Dakota State, Arkansas Pine-Bluff and Southeast Missouri beginning August 26 at 10 a.m.
