HOUSTON, Texas --The Jackson State men's basketball team fell to the Texas Southern Tigers 84-82 on the road Monday on Chris Craig's buzzer-beating shot as time expired.
The Tigers (4-14, 3-2) had four players score in double figures, led by Trace Young, who had 22 points and four steals. Coltie Young tacked on 18 points and four steals and Chase Adams helped out with 13 points and six assists.
The Jackson State offense made nine threes on 22 attempts. Coltie Young hit four treys for the Tigers in the contest.
Jackson State forced 23 Texas Southern turnovers while committing 17 themselves in Monday's game. The Tigers turned those takeaways into 26 points on the offensive end of the floor. Coltie Young's four steals led the way for Jackson State.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 39-27 advantage, Jackson State went on a 5-0 run with 1:51 left in the first half to increase its lead to 44-27. The Tigers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 47-31 advantage. Jackson State capitalized on 13 Texas Southern turnovers in the period, turning them into 17 points on the other end of the floor.
Texas Southern then erased the Jackson State lead in the game's final quarter for an 84-82 comeback victory. Jackson State capitalized on 10 Texas Southern turnovers in the period, collecting nine points off those turnovers.
