JACKSON, MS --Zeke Cook knocked down a shot with just eight seconds remaining in the game to put the Jackson State men's basketball team up for good in a 59-58 win against the Florida A&M Rattlers at home Monday.
The Tigers (6-14, 5-2) had three players score in double figures, led by Cook, who put together a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Coltie Young tacked on 11 points and Chase Adams helped out with 10 points.
Led by Cook's five offensive rebounds, Jackson State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 10 boards that resulted in nine second chance points.
Jackson State did a great job disrupting Florida A&M shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Cook's three rejections led the way individually for the Tigers.
How It Happened
After falling behind 30-21, Jackson State went on a 7-0 run with 2:53 left in the first half to narrow its deficit to 30-28, a score that would hold until halftime.
After intermission, Jackson State came back to even it up at 32-32 before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Young's three, to seize a 37-32 lead with 15:09 to go in the contest. The Rattlers narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Tigers still held on for the 59-58 win. Jackson State capitalized on seven Florida A&M turnovers in the period, collecting 10 points off those turnovers.
