Adams' dagger shot leads Jackson State over Alabama A&M 72-64

JACKSON, MS --Chase Adams nailed a dagger jumper with 1:50 left in the fourth quarter to put Jackson State up 70-63, and the Tigers secured a 72-64 win against the Alabama A&M Bulldogs at home Monday.

The Tigers (4-12, 3-0) had three players score in double figures, led by Trace Young, who had 24 points and nine rebounds. Coltie Young tacked on 14 points and eight rebounds and Jamarcus Jones helped out with 13 points and six rebounds.

Jackson State grabbed 34 rebounds in Monday's game compared to Alabama A&M's 29, led by Trace Young's nine boards. The Tigers also cleaned up the offensive glass, turning 11 rebounds into 13 second chance points.

Jackson State forced 16 Alabama A&M turnovers while committing 14 themselves in Monday's game. The Tigers turned those takeaways into 18 points on the other end of the floor. Adams led the way individually with four steals.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 27-17 advantage, Jackson State went on a 7-0 run with 3:13 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Trace Young, to increase its lead to 34-17. The Tigers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 36-29 advantage. Jackson State capitalized on 11 Alabama A&M turnovers in the period, turning them into 11 points on the other end of the floor.

The Bulldogs proceeded to tie things up at 50-50 before Jackson State went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Coltie Young's three, to seize a 56-50 lead with 9:15 to go in the contest. The Tigers kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 72-64 win. Jackson State shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting six shots from deep to score 18 of its 36 points.
