Coltie Young collected a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Jackson State men's basketball team over the Alabama State Hornets 61-58 at home Saturday.
The Jackson State defense held Alabama State shooters to just 38.9 percent from the field, including 26.3 percent from three-point range. The Tigers also kept Antonio "TJ" Madlock to 3-of-14 shooting and seven points in the game.
Alabama A&M men's basketball fell to Alcorn State, 89-76, inside the Davey L. Whitney Complex on Saturday afternoon in men's Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action.
A&M finished the game shooting 45.2 (28-for-62) percent from the field, 22.2 (4-for-18) percent from deep, and 64 (16-for-25) percent from the free throw line. They outscored Alcorn State in bench points (24-24) and points in the paint (44-36), but fell short in fast break points (7-15), points off turnovers (16-20), and second chance points (7-14).
