JACKSON, Miss.| The Jackson State volleyball team dominated day one of the SWAC West Cluster defeating Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern in the first and last matches of the day.
Kyahana Robinson totaled nine kills with a .563 hitting percentage in the first match against Prairie View A&M to help lead the team to a five-set victory (25-19, 18-25, 25-18, 19-25, 16-14.
The conference win improved Jackson State's record to 11-9 overall and 7-3 in SWAC play.
The Tigers were led by a double-double from
Alexis Williams, who registered 15 kills and 21 digs on the day.
Hope Briggs also added 12 kills to help the offense. Williams also pitched in with six in the contest. On the defensive end,
Karys Dove chipped in for with 21 digs to go with 13 blocks from
Jordan Jones.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Tigers took control on the first point and never looked back to secure the first set 25-19. Jackson State led by as many as 10 points at 21-11 before closing out the set, totaling 18 kills in the set.
SET 2 | Jackson State fell in set two 25-18 to tie the match 1-1. Jackson State trailed by as many as seven points as Prairie View A&M grabbed the advantage for good at 15-14 in a set that was tied up six times before the Lady Panthers took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 3 | JSU got back on the winning track, emerging victorious in set three and taking a two sets to one lead in the match. The Lady Tigers grabbed control of the set early when the score was 3-2 and never trailed to win 25-18. Jackson State led by eight points at 24-16 before finishing off the stanza. The Jackson State offense also got a boost from five aces in the stanza. Jackson State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking six Prairie View A&M attacks in the stanza.
SET 4 | Jackson State couldn't finish off a four-set win as the Lady Panthers forced a fifth set with a 25-19 victory. The Tigers trailed by as many as seven points as Prairie View A&M grabbed the advantage for good at 9-8 and Jackson State wasn't able to recover in a set that was knotted up four times before the Lady Panthers took over.
SET 5 | Jackson State and Prairie View A&M went back and forth all game, trading set wins until the Lady Tigers took the fifth set 16-14 and the match. The Lady Tigers survived a back-and-forth final set to emerge victorious in a stanza that featured two lead changes and was tied seven times. Neither team led by more than three points in the set.
GAME 2
JSU racked up 50 kills on the way to a 3-0 sweep (25-20, 25-21, 25-16) over Texas Southern Sunday evening at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center.
The conference win improved Jackson State's record to 12-9 overall and 8-3 in SWAC action.
The Tigers attack was paced by
Alexis Williams, who finished with 15 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .429, and by
Nyjha Marcelin, who had 10. got 15 digs from
Trinity Bryant to lead them defensively.

SET 3 | JSU closed the match in a 3-0 sweep after taking the third set. The Tigers took a 1-0 lead and never looked back in the set to secure a 25-16 victory. Jackson State opened up as much as an 11-point lead at 24-13 before finishing off the set, collecting 15 kills in the process.
