JACKSON, MS --Romelle Mansel and Zeke Cook each recorded double-doubles, but the Jackson State men's basketball team fell to the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils 82-78 at home Saturday.
The double-doubles by Mansel, who had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Cook, who had 14 points and 12 rebounds, led the Tigers (6-17, 5-5) in the contest. Chase Adams helped out with 13 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Jackson State utilized fantastic ball movement in Saturday's game, piling up 18 assists on 29 made field goals. Adams' five assists paced the Tigers and Keiveon Hunt also added four assists of his own.
How It Happened
After falling behind 15-10, Jackson State went on a 14-0 run with 13:19 left in the first half to take a 24-15 lead. The Tigers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 40-37 advantage. Jackson State got a great contribution from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 14 of its 40 total points.
Mississippi Valley State proceeded to take a 41-40 lead before Jackson State went on a 6-0 run to seize a 46-41 lead with 17:14 to go in the contest. Mississippi Valley State re-asserted control, outscoring the Tigers 41-32 the rest of the way to hand Jackson State the 82-78 loss. Jackson State took care of business in the paint, recording 22 of its 38 points in the lane.
