JACKSON, MS. -The Jackson State men's and women's track and field program continued their 2023 indoor season at the South Alabama Invitational. The Tigers faced some tough competition but still managed to find success.
In the running events, the men's 400 meter dash,
Shawn Collins finished in first place with a time of 48.50. During the Women's 800 meter dash,
Amara Hawkins-Quinones finished in seventh place with a time of 2:17.63.
In the field events,
Sherman Hawkins Jr. finished in second place during the high Jump with a leap of 2.15 meters to hit a new personal best.
Javon Gray finished first place during the Triple Jump with a jump of 15.27 meters to hit a new personal best. Gray also finished in sixth place with a jump of 6.95 meters in the men's long jump. In the women's shot put,
Lilliann Dudley finished in fourth place with a throw of 13.93 meters, followed by
Johnny Howell in the men's shot put, finished in seventh place with a clean throw of 15.00 meters. During the Women's long jump,
Candace Mongo finished with a leap of 5.55 meters to place her in eighth place.
To conclude the meet, in the women's 4x400 relay which consisted of
Jiya Clayton,
Amara Hawkins-Quinones,
Erkyah Garrett, and
Carrington Blair placed sixth with a time of 3.58.64. In the men's 4x400 relay which consisted of
Hanif Muhammad,
Kaseem Ibraheem-Washington,
Blake Gibson, and
Shawn Collins placed fifth.
