The Jackson State baseball team won both games of a doubleheader vs. Tougaloo, winning 17-10 and 21-8 in a pair of seven-inning games Wednesday at Braddy Field.
GAME 1 -Tigers 17, Tougaloo 10: Freshman Jordon Smiley racked up five RBIs to help lead Jackson State in the opener.
Sophomore Colby Guy (1-0) got the win, going three shutout innings, giving up three hits, one walk, and striking out five. Sophomore Francis Thorne pitched well, going two shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking one, and striking out three.
Smiley went 2-for-5 with a triple in addition to his five RBIs for the Tigers. Junior Jordan Young went 2-for-3 with a home run, two walks, and three RBI. Senior Caleb Evans had two hits in three trips to the plate with a double, a walk, and three RBI.
GAME 2 - Â Tigers 21, Tougaloo 8: Bret Mersman had four hits and nearly hit for the cycle in the nightcap.
Austin Campbell (1-0) started on the mound and picked up the win. Christian Womble threw nearly two 1.2 shutout innings while allowing one hit, with no walks and four strikeouts.
Mersman had a triple, a home run, two singles, and three RBI. Ty Hill went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and four RBI. Williams had two hits in four trips to the plate, adding a home run and three RBI.
Jackson State (8-2) returns to action this weekend in a three-game non-conference series at Alcorn beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
