Hill Dominant for Jackson State in Shutout Victory over UAPB as Tigers Split the Day Falling to NSU

NATCHITOCHES, La.| Junior Takiya Hill tossed a four-hit shutout to lead Jackson State past the Arkansas-Pine Bluff 6-0.

Hill (2-4) went the distance for Jackson State, giving up four hits, walking none and striking out three.

In the batter's box, the Tigers were led by senior Alexis Arredondo, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a walk and two RBI. Senior Isis Taylor compiled a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Senior Isabel Gusman also helped out for Jackson State, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Jackson State (9-8) took the lead for good in the second, scoring for the first time in the inning.
  • The Tigers got an RBI single from Arredondo, scoring Taylor from third base.

Jackson State was not able to score a run against Northwestern State pitcher sophomore Maggie Darr on Saturday and was shut out 8-0 by the Demons.

Junior Victoria Salazar (2-3) started and took the loss in the circle for Jackson State (9-9).

In the batter's box, the Tigers were paced by sophomore Khayden Harris, who went 1-for-1 on the day with a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Jackson State managed zero chances with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position.
  • The Tigers last got a runner on third in the fifth, when freshman Madison Perry made it 60 feet away from scoring with one out.

  • Jackson State pitchers faced 22 Northwestern State hitters in the game, allowing 11 ground balls and one fly ball.
