JACKSON, Miss.| The Jackson State softball team fell to Alabama A&M 5-5 in eight innings in game one of today's doubleheader. The Tigers battled for the 9-8 walk off win in game two to take the series Saturday afternoon.
GAME 1 | Jackson State 4, Alabama A&M 5
Takiya Hill (0-3) got the ball to start for Jackson State (16-18, 6-6 SWAC) and took the loss.
Victoria Salazar was a bright spot for the Tigers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing one shutout inning, allowing no hits, with no walks and one strikeout.
Marissa Medina led the way offensively for the Tigers, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a home run and two RBI.
Beija Allen compiled a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-1 with an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trailing 2-0, Jackson State (17-18, 6-6 SWAC) first put runs on the board in the third inning.
- Medina put JSU on the board with a two-out solo home run off AAMU's Paige Scott.
- The Tigers kept the Bulldogs off the board before taking the lead in the fifth.
- Jackson State managed to push across two runs in the inning which brought the Tigers' lead to 3-2.
- Jackson State's lead had disappeared by the time the eighth inning arrived and turned into a 5-3 Alabama A&M advantage, when the Tigers cut that deficit to 5-4.
- JSU scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Allen.
- The Tigers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

- Jackson State finished with four runs, six hits and four errors.
- Alabama State registered five runs, seven hits and two errors.
- Jackson State's highest scoring inning was the fifth, when it pushed two runs across.
- JSU's pitchers limited Alabama A&M to just 1-for-7 (.143) with runners in scoring position while pitchers faced 36 Alabama A&M hitters in the game, allowing 14 ground balls and three fly balls while striking out five.
- Medina led the Tigers at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.
- Alabama A&M was led offensively by Venice Sanders, who went 1-for-4 with a home run and an RBI.
- Scott led the Bulldogs pitching staff, throwing eight innings of four-run ball.
GAME 2 | Jackson State 9, Alabama A&M 8
The Tigers needed nine innings to get the job done in game two, but secured the 9-8 extra-innings win, walking it off on a single off the bat of sophomore Mari Stephens to claim victory over the Alabama A&M Bulldogs Saturday.
Victoria Salazar (3-0) got the win for Jackson State. The right-hander went three innings, giving up five runs, two earned, on three hits, allowing two walks and striking out four.
Brooklyn Morris started the ballgame and went three innings, surrendering two runs, zero earned, on five hits, walking none and striking out two.
Rachel Barker led the way offensively for the Tigers, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a triple, a walk and an RBI.
Marissa Medina put together a standout performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with two walks and two RBI.
Alexis Arredondo also chipped in, going 1-for-4 for Jackson State with a walk and three RBI.

- The Tigers scored in six different innings on the way to its 9-8 victory.
- Jackson State broke an 8-8 tie in the bottom of the ninth inning to take the lead for good at 9-8, walking it off on an RBI single off the bat of Mari Stephens.
