Baseball Wins Game, Series Over Valley

ITTA BENA, Miss. - The Jackson State baseball team beat Mississippi Valley State 8-6 Sunday at Magnolia Field to win the Southwestern Athletic Conference series 2-1.

Marcus Atterberry hit a solo home run, had two hits, and scored twice with a run driven in, Myles White had three hits and an RBI, and Ty Hill had two hits with a run scored and an RBI to lead Jackson State (16-9 overall, 3-6 SWAC).

A four-run fifth for the Tigers erased a 3-1 deficit. Colby Guy doubled to left and advanced to third when Daniel Bannon reached on an error. After Bannon advanced to second on a wild pitch, Hill singled to left with one out to score Guy, and Bannon scored on an error on the play, allowing Hill to get to third base. Jaelen Williams then singled to right field scoring Hill to put the Tigers ahead 4-3. Later in the inning, Williams scored on a balk to give JSU a 5-3 lead.

Tied 5-5 in the seventh, the Tigers took the lead for good. Jatavis Melton scored on a balk to give JSU the lead, 6-5. With two out, White doubled to left, scoring Atterberry, who earlier reached on a fielder's choice, to give Jackson State a 7-5 lead.

Jackson State returns to action Tuesday hosting New Orleans at 6 p.m. at Braddy Field.
