ITTA BENA, Miss.| The Jackson State softball team went 2-0 at Mississippi Valley State in its doubleheader Saturday afternoon. The Tigers took game one 4-2 and game two 3-0.
GAME 1: JSU 4, MVSU 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jackson State (21-24, 10-10 SWAC) got on the board first in the top of the second inning as Alexis Arredondo singled to center field to score Marissa Medina.
- Mississippi Valley State answered in the bottom of the inning scoring its first run.
- JSU didn't score again until the top of the fourth inning starting with an RBI single from Isis Taylor to score Arredono.
- The Devillettes evened the score again at two in the bottom of the sixth,
- The Tigers forced on error by MVSU that allowed Isabel Gusman and Medina to score, bringing the Tigers' advantage to 4-2 in the top of the eight inning.
- JSU went three up and three down on defense to secure the first win of the series.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Jackson State registered four runs, six hits and two errors in the game.
- Mississippi Valley State finished with two runs, four hits and three errors.
- Marissa Medina took the win in the circle for JSU pitching all eight innings only allowing one error and one walk.
- Medina struck out 13 batters in the game.
- Alexis Arredondo led the Tigers at the plate going 2-for-4.
GAME 2: JSU, 3 MVSU 0
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jackson State scored first in the ballgame as Christina Carlson singled to center field to score Mari Stephens.
- JSU didn't score again until the bottom of the sixth inning when Kyah Jenning hit a sacrifice fly to center field and Rachel Barker scored.
- Samiyyah Huckabee stole home to give Jackson State the 3-0 lead heading in the bottom of the sixth.
- The Tigers held Mississippi Valley scoreless the entire game to take the 3-0 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Jackson State recorded three runs, 10 hits and one error in the game.
- Mississippi Valley State finished with eight hits and one error.
- Takiya Hill walked away with the win in the circle for JSU pitching all seven innings and allowing no runs.
- Isabel Gusman led the Tigers' offense going 3-for-4 at the plate.
