Jatavis Melton's two-out walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning sparked Jackson State baseball to a Sunday doubleheader sweep over Bethune-Cookman by the scores of 5-3 and 7-3 Sunday at Braddy Field.
Game 1: Tigers 5, B-CU 3 (7 inn.): Melton's dramatic blast came on a 2-2 pitch to win the game that was prescheduled for seven innings following Saturday's rainout. A Wildcat fielding error kept the inning alive two hitters before Melton's blast, which was fair just inside the left field foul pole.
Christian Womble got the complete-game win, allowing seven hits and three runs, walking four and striking out six.
Game 2: Tigers 7, B-CU 3: Jesse Caver pitched into the seventh inning, helping Jackson State to the win in the nightcap.
JSU (23-18 overall, 8-13 SWAC) took advantage of four walks and a hit batter to score three first-inning runs without a hit.
Melton's RBI single in the second inning scored Omar Gomez for a 4-0 JSU lead.
After the Wildcats (21-20, 12-7) closed to 5-3 in the seventh, the Tigers extended the lead. Myles White led off the inning with a double, and with one out Marshal Luiz walked. Gomez then doubled down the left field line to score White. Cesar Saavedra then reached on an error before Melton's fielders choice grounder scored Luiz for the final margin.
Jackson State returns to action Tuesday at the University of New Orleans at 6 p.m.
