GULFPORT, Miss.| Jackson State's pitchers gave up only three runs in the ballgame, but still could not muster the offense to take advantage, falling to Texas Southern 3-2 on Wednesday afternoon in the elimination game of the SWAC Tournament.
Takiya Hill (4-9) got the ball to start for Jackson State (24-27) and took the loss. In the batter's box, the Tigers were paced by Jalia Hubbard, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a triple. Mari Stephens compiled a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 2-for-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trailing 3-0 after five innings, the Tigers first put runs on the board in the sixth as Stephens came across to score the lone run of the inning for Jackson State and get them on the board.
- JSU kept the deficit at 3-1 before closing the gap further in the seventh.
- Hubbard came across to score the lone run of the inning for Jackson State, which brought the score to 3-2 in favor of Texas Southern.
- The game ended with that seventh inning rally falling short as TSU took the 3-2 victory to eliminate JSU.
