DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Jackson State baseball team lost 5-3 at Bethune-Cookman Friday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
The Tigers got on the board in the fifth. Colby Guy singled to lead off the inning and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jatavis Melton. With two out and following a walk to Ty Hill, Marcus Atterberry singled to center field scoring Guy, with Hill scoring on a throwing error on the play to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.
In the sixth, Bret Mersman singled up the middle, advanced to second on a passed ball, and moved to third on a groundout. Omar Gomez' bunt singled up the first base line scored Mersman for a 3-0 lead.
However, Bethune-Cookman rallied with two runs in the eighth and three in the ninth for the win.
Atterberry and Cesar Saavedra each had two hits for the Tigers, who will play the final game of the series Saturday at Noon central time, with the radio broadcast online at gojsutigers.com/live.
