AUSTIN, Texas – Jackson State men's outdoor track freshman Sherman Hawkins Jr. ended his season Friday in the NCAA National Championship in the high jump Friday night on the University of Texas campus.
Despite not clearing any of his attempts in the meet, it was a stellar season for Hawkins, who at one point ranked second in the nation in the high jump with a mark of 2.16 meters (7' 1"). He is the first JSU athlete to qualify for the national championship event since Anaso Jobodwana in the 100 and 200-meter dashes in 2013.
Hawkins was the 2023 SWAC Outdoor Champion in the high jump, and finished third in the long jump.
