JACKSON, Miss.| The Jackson State volleyball team hosted the University of Louisiana-Monroe in its home opener at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center Tuesday afternoon. The Tigers walked away with the 3-2 comeback victory, topping the Warhawks (18-25, 15-25, 25-21, 25-19, 15-11).
The Tigers offense was paced by
Hope Briggs, who finished with 18 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .289.
Jordan Jones added 10 kills and
Morghan Chambers chipped in with 10 as part of a balanced Jackson State attack. Defensively, JSU had two players reach double figures in digs as
Trinity Bryant had 20 and
Alexis Williams had 15.
How It Happened
- Jackson State (1-3) trailed by as many as eight points in the first set as ULM never surrendered the lead.
- JSU fell behind early, losing a tough first set 25-18.
- The Tigers tied the third set seven times before the Warhawks took the advantage for good at 8-7.
- ULM (1-7) pulled away from JSU for the second set win, 25-15.
- Jackson State led the third set 5-4 with a kill from Morghan Chambers before ULM tied it at five.
- The Tigers took control of the set early when the score was 6-5 and never trailed to win 25-21. Jackson State led by eight points at 22-14 before closing out the stanza, collecting 16 kills in the process.
- The JSU offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
- Jackson State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four ULM attacks in the.
- After being tied at six, the Tigers continued their comeback, taking the lead with back-to-back kills from Chambers and Hope Briggs to give the Tigers the 7-6 go ahead.
- JSU kept its distance, winning the fourth set 25-19 to bring the match level at two sets apiece.
