Avent, Boler Lead the Tigers' Offense as JSU Ousts Prairie View A&M at Home

JACKSON, Miss.| Five Tigers scored in double figures as the Jackson State women's basketball team kept Prairie View A&M to just 10 percent from beyond the arc in a 1-for-10 shooting performance on the way to a 91-54 win at home Saturday.

Ti'lan Boler recorded 14 points, one block and one steal. Andriana Avent added 14 points and three rebounds from the bench and Miya Crump helped out with 13 points and nine rebounds.

Jackson State pulled down 48 rebounds in Saturday's game compared to Prairie View A&M's 22, led by Crump's nine boards. The Tigers also put in work on the offensive glass, turning 26 rebounds into 24 second chance points.

Jackson State's defense held Prairie View A&M to only 39.2 percent shooting from the field, including 10 percent from beyond the arc. The Panthers did not have much luck cleaning up their misses on the offensive glass either, as they finished with eight offensive rebounds and managed nine second chance points.

  • The Tigers proceeded to tack on three points to that lead with a basket from Mya Pratcher and enjoyed a 49-25 advantage heading into halftime.
  • Jackson State's bench scored 14 of its 28 total points in the quarter.
  • JSU continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a three from Avent, to expand its lead further to 58-27 with 4:57 to go in the third. Before the third period was over, the Tigers added one point to that lead and entered the fourth quarter with a 67-35 edge.
  • Jackson State took advantage of six Prairie View A&M turnovers in the quarter, scoring five points off of takeaways.
  • The blue and white kept widening that lead, expanding it to 75-40 before going on an 8-0 run to grow the lead to 83-40 with 5:38 to go in the contest.
  • The Panthers narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Tigers still cruised the rest of the way for the 91-54 win.
