DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.| The Jackson State women's basketball team got a 42-point showing from the bench on the way to an 81-65 win over the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats on the road Saturday. Andriana Avent led the Tigers' offense with 19 points.
The Tigers two others score in double figures as Miya Crump added 15 points and three steals and Keshuna Luckett chipped in as well with 13 points and seven assists.
Led by Angel Jackson's two offensive rebounds, Jackson State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 15 boards that resulted in 13 second chance points.
Jackson State forced 14 Bethune-Cookman turnovers. The Tigers turned those takeaways into 13 points on the offensive end of the floor. Crump's three steals led the way for Jackson State.
How It Happened
- Jackson State (11-6, 6-0 SWAC) went on an 8-0 run with 5:43 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Avent, to increase its lead to 14-4 after starting the firs quarter with two-point lead.
- The Tigers then added two points to that lead by the end of the period and entered the quarter break with a 20-8 advantage.
- Jackson State capitalized on four Bethune-Cookman turnovers in the period, turning them into five points on the other end of the floor.
- JSU built that first quarter lead to 28-11 before going on a 6-0 run starting at the 6:41 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Ti'Ian Boler, to increase its lead to 34-11.
- Bethune-Cookman (12-7,3-3 SWAC) cut into that lead, but the Tigers still enjoyed a 43-26 advantage heading into halftime.
- Jackson State saw non-starters score 10 of its 23 total points off the bench in the quarter.
- The Tigers continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on a 5-0 run to expand its lead further to 58-36 with 3:03 to go in the third.
- Before the third period was over, the Tigers added three points to that lead and entered the fourth quarter with a 66-41 edge.
- Jackson State played well near the basket, scoring 12 of its 23 points in the paint.
- The Tigers then held on for the victory in the fourth quarter.
- Jackson State took advantage of four Bethune-Cookman turnovers in the quarter, scoring four points off of those takeaways.

- Jackson State shot 47.7 percent (31-for-65) from the field and 70.6 percent (12-for-17) from the three-point line.
- The Tigers finished with 42 bench points, 36 points in the paint, 13 second chance points, 13 points off of 14 BCU turnovers and 11 fast break points.
- Bethune-Cookman shot 28.8 percent (17-for-59) from the field and 77.8 percent (28-for-36) from the free throw line.
- Chanelle McDonald put up 20 points and 11 rebounds on the night.
- D'Shante Edwards and Kayla White each finished with 12 points.
- The Wildcats finished with 21 points off of 17 JSU turnovers, 21 fast break points, 19 bench points, 16 points in the paint and 11 second chance points.
