Game Notes
- Irv Mulligan reached 100 yards in a game for the first time this season when he picked up 139 yards on 18 carries in a win over No. 18 Florida A&M. It was just the second time this season a player has hit 100 yards - Cam'Ron McCoy did so against Lane (9.7). It helped Mulligan earn SWAC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
- Jackson State has played eight times on this date in history since the mid-1950s, playing against just two different teams. The Tigers are 4-4 all-time on this date including winning the last game played on this date in 2013 against Prairie View A&M 51-38 in Shreveport (La.). The Tigers have played Prairie View A&M (1-0) and Grambling State (3-4) on this date in school history.
- Jackson State has played just two teams from the state of Florida in Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M. The Tigers are 19-10-2 including a 6-2 mark against Bethune-Cookman.
- A week after appearing in the AFCA FCS Coaches Top 25 presented Hudl (No. 25), the Tigers moved up two spots to No. 23 following their victory over then-No. 18 Florida A&M. They also received votes in the Stats Perform poll this week.
- Travis Terrell Jr. was named to the Jerry Rice In-Season Watch List this week. The Atlanta-native is one of the nation's leading return specialists and has returned two kicks for touchdowns this season. To be eligible for the Jerry Rice Award, a player must be considered a freshman by his conference in his first academic year or second if he did not surpass four regular-season games played in the true freshman season (the NCAA redshirt rule). He joins a list of 30 players who have been named to the in-season watch list of the Stats Perform 2024 Jerry Rice Award, which honors the FCS freshman player of the year in college football's Division I subdivision. The Rice Award, now in its 14th season, is named after legendary Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice. Past recipients include Cooper Kupp, Chase Edmonds, Trey Lance, Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders.
