James and Williams Put up Double-doubles in JSU Win Over Alabama A&M

JACKSON, Miss.| Jayden James and Alexis Williams each recorded double-doubles to help power Jackson State to a 3-1 victory (25-16, 22-25, 25-23, 25-15) against Alabama A&M Sunday afternoon on senior day.

The victory improved the Tigers' record to 16-9 overall and 12-2 in SWAC action.

James finished with 11 kills and 13 digs, and Williams had 15 kills and 11 digs. Hope Briggs added 13 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Trinity Bryant chipped in for with 21 digs to go with four blocks from Briggs.

  • Jayden James and Alexis Williams each registered double-doubles in the win.
  • Jackson State had four players in double figures in kills.
  • JSU had three players in double figures in digs.
  • Naija Gadis had a team-high two aces in the win.
  • The Tigers never trailed on the way to winning the first set 25-16.

How It Happened

  • Jackson State won the first point and never trailed to secure the first set 25-16.
  • JSU led by as many as 11 points at 24-13 before finishing off the set, collecting 18 kills in the process.
  • The Tigers also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set.
  • Jackson State then fell in the second set 25-22, evening things at a set each.
  • Alabama A&M grabbed the advantage for good at 15-14 in a set that was tied up eight times before the Bulldogs took over in the second half of the stanza.
  • Jackson State fought back after the set-two loss to take set three and a 2-1 lead in the match.
  • The Tigers persevered in a back-and-forth set to win 25-23 in a stanza that featured four lead changes and was tied seven times.
  • Neither team opened up a lead of more than four points along the way.
  • The Tigers racked up 18 kills over the course of the set.
  • The Jackson State offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
  • JSU kept the momentum going, finishing off the match with a 25-15 fourth-set victory. 
  • The Tigers led from the opening point on in the set to secure the victory.
  • Jackson State opened up as much as a 14-point lead at 18-4 before finishing off the stanza, totaling 15 kills along the way.
