JACKSON, Miss. | No. 20/23 Jackson State returns to action this weekend on the road in a pivotal Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) contest against Alabama State at ASU Stadium.

The game, between the top two teams in the SWAC East Division, kicks off at 2 p.m. on ESPN+.

Jackson State (8-2, 6-0 SWAC), winners of six consecutive games, looks to stay undefeated in conference play against an Alabama State team (5-4, 4-2 SWAC) who is looking to rebound after a one-point loss to Grambling State last weekend. The Tigers sit two games ahead of Alabama State in the conference standings with just two games remaining on the regular season schedule. 

The two teams met last year in Jackson with Alabama State coming out with a 24-19 victory on the Tigers' homecoming.

Game Notes

• Irv Mulligan enters the game with 896 rushing yards through eight games. The senior missed the first two games of the season due to an injury suffered during the 2023 season and playing sparingly in the next two games, but leads the conference in rushing entering the game.
• Travis Terrell Jr. is among the nation's leaders in all-purpose yards and kickoff returns, and leads the nation with a pair of kickoff returns for touchdowns while being named to the Jerry Rice Watch List (nation's top freshman).
• The game will feature the top two teams in rushing defense in Jackson State (102.5) and Alabama State (109.3) - both ranked inside the top 15 in the nation in that category. It also features the top two scoring defenses in the league in Alabama State (19.1) and Jackson State (20.0).
• Meanwhile, the Tigers are ranked fifth in the nation in scoring at 37.7 points per game including averaging 42.0 points per game in the six conference games entering Saturday.
• Alabama State is 3-2 over the last five games in the series, with Jackson State winning two of the last three.
